Robert and Maureen D were referred to me through another client. They had just purchased an older home on a gorgeous waterfront lot on the Magothy River in Pasadena. Their initial thoughts were to do a remodel of the existing home, but after a thorough inspection, we realized that they would actually be less expensive to do a complete tear down and rebuild instead of a renovation.

Since it was a waterfront home, we had some restrictions to abide by. We maintained the same footprint and location as the old house, and then designed from there. The goal of the overall design was to maximize square footage.

Robert and Maureen have three children and a large extended family, so hosting holidays, as well as lots of kids, was a must. The downstairs is essentially one large open room to take full advantage of the water view.  A gigantic kitchen that is large enough for everyone to work in together anchors the space. The upstairs hosts a master suite with fabulous views of the Magothy, as well as large bedrooms for each of the children.

Robert, Maureen, and I had a great time working through this project together. At times it was difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel as the permitting process on the water can be lengthy, but in the end it was well worth it. They got the perfect family home they were looking for on a budget that they were comfortable with. As for me, I got to become friends with a fantastic family all while taking in some beautiful views while at work each day!
