Nancy and Ryan K contacted me after learning about the work that I had done with Homes For Our Troops a few years prior. Ryan had been severely wounded in Iraq, and they needed some help to build a home that not only met his medical needs and the VA Guidelines, but also fit the lifestyle of this young, vibrant family of five.

Nancy and Ryan had purchased a small single story home in a lovely neighborhood in Severna Park with the plan of making some slight alterations. We worked with a local architect to come up with a plan that not only worked for the VA (many specific sizing and callout guidelines were required in order to receive their home modification grant), but also worked for the lot size. We decided to do an almost complete teardown, which required a variance in order to meet the garage sizing requirements from the VA. Once this was finally all complete, we were able to get started.

We created a warm entrance that with zero threshold that leads in directly from an inviting front porch.  The interior is designed to complement the family's lifestyle and includes a large kitchen and great room, a large, functional master bedroom, and a bedroom for each of the children.  The home also boats a huge garage and a beautiful deck.

This is one of my all time favorite projects! Not only did we all become fast friends with this amazing family, but we were also able to transform this rather “tired” looking property into a true showpiece of the neighborhood.  Perhaps the best part was completely donating our time, energy and effort to a family who had done so much for our country!
